Cansler’s background, expertise and vision will help set a strong course for the future
“We are very excited to have someone of Tim Cansler’s stature join ResponsibleAg,” said J. Billy Pirkle, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “As the program gets underway, his background, expertise and vision will help set a strong course for the future.” Cansler Consulting officially began representing the organization in mid-July. “ResponsibleAg is one of our industry’s highest priorities and already has the solid support of industry leaders and public officials,” Pirkle said. “With Tim filling this critical role, we can soon begin working with [agriculture] retailers in the field to carry out our mission.” ResponsibleAg will promote safety for fertilizer storage facilities in the United States by developing and adopting compliance programs and safety standards for the safe storage and handling of agricultural products, including in particular fertilizers as well as the inspection of facilities associated with such products to better ensure the safety of the surrounding areas and mitigate the possibility of environmental damage. Cansler will oversee the launch and ongoing administration of ResponsibleAg’s programs, training and reporting activities.
Background on Tim Cansler
Cansler is the founder and chief strategist for Cansler Consulting. Before starting his consulting practice, Cansler held key economic and marketing assignments at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Cansler Consulting was founded in 2005 and since its inception has managed multiple nonprofit associations with Tim Cansler serving as Executive Director. His responsibilities to Cansler Consulting clients include implementing board policies, managing the overall organization and individual program budgets, human resources, recruitment and retention of membership, program development, online presence and social media, building relationships with affiliated organizations, implementing multi-million dollar major projects, media relations, and state and federal government affairs.
No Stranger to Federal Ag Policy
Cansler joined USDA in 2002 where he worked with multiple agencies within the department. While serving in the Farm Service Agency, he was honored with the Administrator’s Award for Policy Implementation. He advanced inside USDA and served as Assistant to the Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs. In that role he was responsible for management of three federal agencies with jurisdiction over issues including biotechnology; facilitating the efficient, fair marketing of U.S. food and fiber products; transportation to help move products into domestic and international markets; scientific leadership in ensuring the health and care of animals and plants; international competitiveness and promoting fair and competitive trading practices. Before joining USDA, Cansler spent 11 years with Farm Bureau working at the local, state and national levels. His work at the Farm Bureau included leading key public policy initiatives and political outreach. During the past two decades, Cansler has had key roles in the development and implementation of four federal Farm Bills in both the public and private sectors, developing an in-depth knowledge of U.S. agricultural policy. — ##–
