Tim Cansler, of Cansler Consulting, recently met and spoke with Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of Defense. Secretary Rumsfeld served as the 13th Secretary of Defense from 1975 to 1977 under President Gerald Ford, and as the 21st Secretary of Defense from 2001 to 2006 under President George W. Bush. He was one of the key individuals responsible for restructuring the military into a 21st century fighting unit and was crucial in planning the United States’ response to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The two had a brief opportunity to discuss some of the latest changes to the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act and Secretary Rumsfeld’s past experiences. Although in separate agencies, the two served in the administration under President George W. Bush.
Connected.
Last year, Tim spoke briefly with U.S Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after his sweeping electoral victory in the Kentucky general election. And, earlier this year, Cansler Consulting sponsored an exclusive off-the-record breakfast with U.S. House Assistant Majority Whip, Brett Guthrie (R-KY-2). He currently serves on the House Energy & Commerce and Education & Workforce Committees.
On a more formal note, each year Tim arranges for some of his clients to meet with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) to discuss issues.
Pentagon Update.
Kelly Porter, a strategic partner with Cansler Consulting, brings unique experience when it comes to defense issues. Kelly is very familiar with the new FY 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and changes in the acquisition processes. She has multiple years of inside experience working at Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO). JIEDDO essentially “wrote the book” on how to navigate the complex and cumbersome Pentagon acquisition processes. Many of those effective methods are now codified into the new statute.
